Super Ficial! is Matchman’s hostile reflection. The original character notes describe twins separated at birth, Stan’s upbringing among circus performers and powers that pull people apart. Defeat by Scott and subsequent confinement harden his desire for revenge.

The short story “The Surface of Things” offers a different sequence. Dejection frees Stan from Rackham, reveals Scott’s secret and offers him powers and a new identity. The resulting fight reaches the United Nations, where Matchman restrains his brother with a sculpture and returns him to the institution. This version differs from the character notes in which Stan’s powers develop earlier.

As a B.L.A.H. operative, Stan participates in assaults and kidnappings, including the Selena operation and Z-Girl’s captivity. Strength does not assure victory: Kimoko uses her increased mass to knock him down. In the animated teleplay “Aileen Alien,” he accepts his brother’s rescue plan and acknowledges its success, only to attack again afterwards.
