Discordia

Before her transformation, Discordia was a secretary from San Jose. The original character notes connect the change with a trip to Greece; “Golden Delicious” returns her in dreams to an apple found on a beach. The object grants power over others while exerting a hold over her. Fear of losing it and difficulty remembering her former self make dependence central to her story.

As Dejection’s chief lieutenant in B.L.A.H., she pursues ambitions of her own. She stirs conflict in Kaboumistan, turns children into a controlled army and exploits Matchman’s attraction to her. Her rivalry with Z-Girl mixes combat with jealousy. In “Day of Discordia,” she even defends conflict as the thing that makes a story interesting.

Comic 11 follows her human identity, Cheri, trying to return to ordinary employment. Exhaustion, invisibility and humiliation coexist with a longing for lost power. Her return to the apple involves an attack on Rhoda and the reappearance of Discordia.

In the animated teleplay “Aileen Alien,” she cooperates with the heroes to survive, then resumes hostilities. In Paris, Le Grand Fromage makes her a prisoner. Scott’s trust and Ghislaine’s return of his protective cufflinks confront her with a choice about another person’s freedom. Their final journey together leaves her future open.
