Lance combines education at Oxford and Sandhurst with hard experience of African wars. The original character notes connect him with service in Zaire’s army and later mercenary work. At VALentine Complex, he oversees security and physical training for Scott and the team.

In “Difference in Autumn,” he meets Rhoda in Paris while trying to leave his previous life behind. His belief in love grows from the cruelty he has witnessed: something must stand against it. He accepts her invitation to help establish a new organisation. Their meeting begins a relationship of trust and attraction.

His nephew Corbin gravitates towards science, while Rhoda’s niece Clementine loves physical activity. Lance is an important adult in both children’s lives. In “Ueberfly!” he rescues Scott from Wilhelmina by posing as a pizza delivery man, demonstrating resourcefulness as well as strength.
