Twelve unnaturally tall, pitch-black shadow-warriors with glowing white eyes and a single white zodiac sign blazing on each chest - a secret esoteric order of martial-artist guardians, led by the Aries Supersign. Suzanne Grace summons them by emergency phone only in the most dire straits; they arrive in a sleek black van, subdue Discordia and help bring down Forbin (#5). A heroic mirror of Dr. Dejection’s own shadow-design, bound up with the “doublesign” mythology - as they put it, “good guys wear black.”

Each member of the SUPERSIGNS is associated with a sign of the Western zodiac. In comic 5 Suzanne uses a special telephone to summon them, explaining to the children that these warriors may be called only in extreme danger. They arrive swiftly, with Aries taking the leading speaking role.
Their coordinated intervention checks Discordia’s advantage and helps sustain the city’s defence during the Forbin crisis. Their unexpected arrival expands the world beyond VALCom’s regular team. The story leaves the personal origins and everyday lives of the twelve largely mysterious.
